Our former student outreach coordinator and recent LLS major alum Zeke Acosta was featured on "Good Morning America" about being transgender and the support from his father and family. From a short video that Zeke posted on his Twitter page that has gone viral about his father giving him a haircut, "Good Morning America" wrote a story about Zeke's transition and the support that he has received from family throughout. In the story Zeke talks about how his education and seeing representations of transgender people in popular media helped him understand his identity and have conversations with his family.

About the experience being on "Good Morning America," Zeke writes,"When I was first contacted to interview with Good Morning America I was apprehensive. With trans-Latinxs having very limited representation in media I knew that this opportunity of sharing my individual testimony would have larger implications on the opinion audiences would form on brown trans queer existence. Latina/o Studies provided me with the confidence I needed to speak on topics like trans rights, representation, institutional oppression, and intersecting identities. My LLS classes equipped me with the vocabulary needed to articulate these ideas, challenged me to critically think, and pushed me to get involved outside the classroom. The energy of the faculty, the students, and even the space of the department itself is indescribable and I encourage every student to experience it for themselves."
