Internship Spotlight: Graciela Best's experience at the Chinese Historical Christian Database

During the summer of 2024, Graciela Best, a sophomore majoring in Latina/Latino studies and history, interned with the Chinese Historical Christian Database. She wrote to us about her experience.

Over the summer, I worked with the Chinese Historical Christian Database. This project is based out of Boston University and works to organize data about the entry and spread of Christianity in modern China. While working with the CHCD, I worked collecting data on Dominican missionaries who worked in China. To do this, I read through the biographies of these missionaries and extracted relevant data. I added the data to a spreadsheet which will be used by the organization for their database. This was a very valuable experience as it gave me the opportunity to learn about data collection and management. This project allowed me to grow my knowledge of different types of history. I also directly contributed to the amount of usable information the database had. This was incredibly satisfying work.
