Department of Latina/Latino Studies professor Janett Barragán Miranda published a new essay in California History on the impact Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) agents have had on Latina/o street food vendors. Her essay examines the pivotal role of Latina/o street food vendors in shaping placemaking in California since the late nineteenth century. She also emphasizes the long history of persecution that street food vendors have endured and questions what Californians will do when street food vendors begin to vanish from the streets.
